“Selama ini, ITS sudah dikenal sebagai jagonya robot di Indonesia, karena itu kami berpikir untuk bisa mendirikan Pusat Ilmu Robotika Nasional. Jadi, nanti bisa untuk wisata ilmu teknologi,” kata Rektor ITS Prof Ir Priyo Suprobo MS PhD di Surabaya, Kamis.

Sebelumnya, ITS telah memiliki Pusat Desain dan Rekayasa Kapal Nasional (NASDEC). “Untuk Pusat Robotika itu, kami akan membicarakan dulu dengan Dirjen Dikti untuk persetujuan realisasinya,” katanya.
Saat ini, ITS telah melakukan penyusunan proposalnya. Ia berharap pusat ilmu robotika itu bisa membantu pengembangan ilmu robotika di Indonesia.

“Nantinya, Pusat Robotika itu diproyeksikan memiliki beberapa laboratorium, diantaranya laboratorium mekanika, elektronika, fotonika, instrumentasi, desain, dan sebagainya, karena laboratorium yang ada sekarang masih kurang memadai untuk mengembangkan ilmu robotika bagi mahasiswa dan dosen di ITS,” katanya.
Menurut dia, peserta Kontes Robot Indonesia (KRI) dan Kontes Robot Cerdas Indonesia (KRCI) yang digelar rutin setiap tahun akan memanfaatkan Pusat Robotika itu untuk berlatih, sehingga tidak lagi menghabiskan biaya cukup tinggi seperti saat ini untuk membuat lapangan percobaan.

“Jadi, tempat itu tidak hanya untuk tim dari ITS, tapi juga untuk Politeknik Elektronika Negeri Surabaya (PENS) dan Politeknik Perkapalan Negeri Surabaya (PPNS) serta universitas lain yang ingin berlatih,” katanya.

Sementara itu, KRI-KRCI 2008 untuk Regional IV (Jatim-Indonesia Timur) digelar di Graha ITS Surabaya pada 17-18 Mei dengan tema ‘Panjat Pinang’ yang merujuk tema kontes robot internasional 2008 di India yakni Govinda. (Ant/OL-06)

State-owned aircraft manufacturer PT Dirgantara Indonesia (DI) will begin producing the Spanish-designed Casa 212-400 light aircraft in early 2010.

DI president director Budi Santoso said Wednesday the company would start producing the aircraft after Spain-based EADS-Construcciones Aeron uticas S.A. (CASA) had completed the relocation of its Spanish production facilities to Indonesia.

“The relocation process will take a year. Therefore, the first aircraft will be produced by (the end of) 2009 or in early 2010,” Budi said — as quoted by Antara — after signing a memorandum of understanding with the Indonesian Navy.

In 1999, CASA became a unit of aircraft and weapons giant the European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company EADS N.V. (EADS).

Budi said the partnership would revive old ties as EADS-CASA had helped establish DI.

“We have promised to build Cassa 212-400s at competitive prices so our planes will sell like hot cakes in the light turboprop carrier market,” he said.

The Bandung-based DI will sell the aircraft equipped with an advanced fully integrated tactical navigation system for customers in Southeast Asia, including Indonesia.

The company will also manufacture components to be sold in South America.

Budi said Cassa aircraft were useful in countries that had similar topographies to Indonesia’s, including Vietnam, Thailand and countries in Africa.

Now to Indonesia where the national space agency has successfully launched a rocket into space. It’s the first step in a program designed to make Indonesia less dependant on other nations in the aeronautic field.

MARCH: In a country not renown for it’s space program, when scientists from Indonesia’s state funded aeronautical agency successfully launched an experimental rocket from West Java, there were calls for celebration.
MUCHLAS: Because we launched in early morning there was no wind, no rain, it was very good conditions

MARCH: Muhammad Muchlas is from the National Aeronautics and Outer Space Institute – or LAPAN.

The launch was the first stage of a five year program to enable Indonesia to launch it’s own satellites into space.

So far, Indonesia have been forced to use rockets from neighbouring countries like India to launch satellites.

Sydney Space Flight Analyst Morris Jones says the launch shows that Indonesia serious about having a world class space program.

JONES: They have launched satellites, they have developed scientific instruments, they have conducted astronomical observations and now they’re moving to the ultimate phase of wanting to develop a rocket, to launch satellites, from their own territory.

MARCH: He says it’s very difficult to get a rocket that can successfully, and reliably operate as a space launch vechicle.

JONES: Let;s not forget that NASA who have been doing it for decades still has trouble operating reliable space transportation systems, now what LAPAN in ind is trying to do is a lot less complex than a NASA rocket but that doesn’t make the task easy.

MARCH: Dr Jones says it’s unlikely that Indonesia will use this type of technology in a defence capacity.

JONES: I think the overall security impact will not be a really serious problem, i think this vehicle would be more suitable for launching satellites than other types of purposes

MARCH: And whilst the launch doesn’t pose any security threat to the asia region, it may stoke some rivalries with neighbouring states.

JONES: Nations in Asia are currently in the middle of a regional space race: the Koreans have just launched their first astronaut, the Indians are getting ready to build their own crew capsule for putting astronauts in space, China has sent a space probe to the moon, Japan has also done it, and later this year China is going to have their first space walk from their own space craft. So there is a lot of activity going on and it’s all to do with national prestige, and technology and economic development.

Tim Antarmuka di Paris (microsoft)

Paris – Penghargaan yang diraih Tim Antarmuka dari Indonesia dalam Imagine Cup tak didapat dengan mudah. Sebelumnya, mereka harus bersaing ketat dengan tim-tim kuat dari Mesir, India, Kolombia hingga Afrika Selatan.

Namun dengan perjuangan dan kerja sama tim yang kompak, tim dari Institut Teknologi Bandung ini berhasil menjadi jawara di kategori The Rural Innovation Achievement Award.

Padahal dari keterangan tertulis yang diterima detikINET, Kamis (10/7/2008), tim ini merupakan satu-satunya wakil dari Asia Pasifik dalam kategori tersebut. Meski demikian hal itu rupanya tak membuat tim ini kalah pamor dari tim kuat lainnya.

Tim Antarmuka beranggotakan tiga mahasiswa Sekolah Teknik Elektro dan Informatika ITB dan seorang mahasiswa Fakultas Seni Rupa dan Desain ITB. Mereka adalah Arief Widhiyasa, Ella Madanella, Dimas Yusuf Danurwenda dan Erga Ghaniya. Mereka didampingi Dwi Hendratmo Widyantoro selaku mentor, yang juga merupakan dosen STEI ITB.

Proyek yang dibuat Tim Antarmuka adalah Butterfly. Yakni sebuah sistem pelaporan yang memungkinkan pengguna untuk segera melaporkan problema kerusakan lingkungan melalui telepon, SMS, MMS hingga melalui web.

Setelah menerima laporan tersebut, Butterfly kemudian akan mengklasifikasi permasalahan atau problema sesuai kategorai prioritas dan lokasi, lalu meneruskan laporan tersebut kepada badan atau pejabat setempat yang bertangung jawab.

Inovasi ini dinilai atas aksesibilitasnya, dimana masyarakat dapat melaporkan atau berbagi informasi kerusakan lingkungan secara tepat waktu. Mengingat daerah pedesaan biasanya berlokasi jauh dan diluar jangkauan infrastruktur tertentu, dimana dapat memperlambat sistem pelaporan kepada badan lingkungan hidup setempat.

Sehingga Butterfly pun dinilai cocok dengan misi dari penghargaan yang disponsori oleh Microsoft Unlimited Potential Group ini. Yaitu untuk mendapatkan solusi software yang berkontribusi bagi kesinambungan lingkungan hidup dan dapat membantu mempromosikan dukungan terhadap pertumbuhan ekonomi bagi masyarakat dengan keterbatasan infrastruktur di negara-negara berkembang serta bagaimana mendukung mereka guna mendapatkan bantuan kebutuhan dasar.
