Batam, Kompas – Industri galangan kapal PT Batamec di Batam menerima order pembuatan kapal tandu dari perusahaan perkapalan di Norwegia senilai Rp 2,7 triliun. Dua kapal tandu yang telah selesai dikerjakan segera dikirim ke Norwegia.

Hal itu dikatakan Gubernur Provinsi Kepulauan Riau Ismeth Abdullah di Batam, Rabu (27/8). ”PT Batamec menerima pesanan 10 kapal dari Norwegia karena biaya pembuatan kapal itu di Batam lebih murah dibandingkan dengan pembuatan kapal sejenis di negara-negara Eropa,” ujarnya. (more…)

TOKYO, Jul 15, 2008 (Asia In Focus via COMTEX) — KWHIY | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating — Buoyed by strong demand for a just-launched sporty motorcycle in the Philippines, KAWASAKI HEAVY INDUSTRIES LTD. (TSE:7012) plans to expand sales to Indonesia next month. According to Kawasaki, the 125cc Fury 125 model is more rigid than other mopeds, enabling it to handle extreme operating conditions.

* Kawasaki had initially planned for annual sales of 20,000 units when the motorbike recently debuted in the Philippines, but strong demand has prompted it to double its target.

* The company anticipates even better sales in Indonesia, where the motorcycle market is growing at a blistering pace.

JAKARTA, July 17, 2008 – In Indonesia’s on-going, wide-ranging agenda of reforms, the trade sector has proven to be a quiet success story. The Inaugural World Trade Indicators (WTI) report from the World Bank shows that when compared to countries in the East Asia Pacific region and other countries in low-middle-income category – Indonesia has among the lowest trade tariffs for goods. On the tariff restrictiveness index, Indonesia stands at an average of 4.5% compared to East Asian and Pacific countries at 4.9%, and far lower than the middle-income country average of 8.7 percent. The reform effort it has made in trade policy has put Indonesia in the 50th rank out of 125 countries on the WTI. (more…)
