Several local firms will conduct tests on Indonesian-brand vehicles before launching the models to tap the country’s car market, which is dominated by Japanese firms.

State-owned train manufacturer PT Industri Kereta Api (Inka) will produce a car under brand name Gea (a girl’s name in Indonesia), while Semarang State University (Unnes) is teaming up with local administrations to manufacture a car model named Arina.

An unnamed Serang-based company will also join in the race by producing a car called Tawon, which means “bee” in local dialect. (more…)

Pacitan, E Java (ANTARA News) – Indonesia`s textile and textile product exports in the first seven months of 2008 rose 6.17 percent to US$6.06 billion from US$5.71 billion in the same period last year, an Industry Ministry official said.

Textile and textile product exports contributed 22.38 percent of the country`s non-oil/non-gas exports and 14.45 percent of industrial product exports over the period, the ministry`s director of industrial and mining product exports, Hartojo Agus Tjahjono said here on Friday. (more…)

Sweet Story about Indonesian-made Aircraft

Indonesian Made CN 235 has long been used by the Asian Sipit, a Philipine local airline operator. Asian Spirit said that they like it more than Dash-7, LET-410, or YS-11, their other fleets, which are very troublesome. The joked that CN 235’s air conditioning was too damn cold. Philippines, I love u. CN 235 fly 5-6 times daily serving many spots in remote cities across Philippines. In peak season, it even flies 12 times a day !! What a tough Indonesian product!
One survey said that this aircraft is loved by the passenger,

JAKARTA, Sept 10 (Reuters) – Indonesian tax revenue in August, excluding the oil and gas sector, jumped 40.5 percent from a year ago, as tougher action by the authorities led to improved compliance, the director-general for tax said.
